Proposition 58—the LEARN Initiative, is a proposition that will be on the California November 2016 ballot. Proposition 58 — Dolores Huerta

Dolores Huerta is a U.S. labor leader and civil rights activist who was the co-founder of the National Farmworkers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers (UFW). She has dedicated her life to improving social and economic conditions for farm workers and fighting discrimination for all people.

Dolores Huerta es una estadounidense líder del movimiento obrero y una activista por los derechos humanos, quien cofundó la Asociación Nacional de Trabajadores Agrícolas, la cual después se convirtió en la United Farm Worders (UFW). Proposition 58 Josefina Lopez-Spanish

Josefina López lanzó el teatro CASA 0101, en Boyle Heights, California, en 2000. Ya que había crecido ahí, su visión era llevar el teatro en vivo de sus experiencias educativas y culturales a la comunidad inmigrante en Boyle Heights que hablaba principalmente el español. Su obra, Real Women Have Curves [Las mujeres verdaderas tienen curvas], se convirtió en una película para HBO en 2002.

Josefina López started the theater CASA 0101 in Boyle Heights, California, in 2000. Having grown up there, her vision was to bring live theater and her educational and cultural experiences to the predominately Spanish-speaking immigrant community of Boyle Heights. Her play, Real Women Have Curves, went on to become an HBO film in 2002.

Latino 247: Latino Reads #01 – Josefina Lopez

Latino 247: Latino Reads is proud to present Josefina Lopez is best known for authoring the play and co-authoring the 2002 SUNDANCE AWARD WINNING film Real Women Have Curves. Josefina started her writing career at 17 and has had over 80 productions of her many plays throughout the country.  Born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico in 1969, Josefina Lopez was five years old when she and her family migrated to the United States and settled in Boyle Heights. Josefina has an MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA’s School of Film & Television. Josefina was a awarded and Honorary Ph.D in the Arts from Columbia College Chicago. She is the Founding Artistic Director of Casa 0101 Theater in Boyle Heights. She is presently developing the musical version of Real Women Have Curves for Broadway.  Josefina wrote a play to protest SB1070 titled Detained in the Desert, which she produced as a film wining Best Feature at the Los Angeles International Women’s Film Festival.
